boom merchant follows up last years hugely successful *stars/green symphony* with another perfect balance of rhythmic and melodic elements. *surge* is a track that always generates a huge reaction, built around a tight groove with plenty of action in the low end. it is literally smeared with electrical charge and doused in layers of harmonic goodness.

haunted doorbell are timothy j. fairplay and matilda tristram who released xylophone together last year on astro lab recordings. picking up where xylophone left off unconnected thoughts on jacking is four tracks of naive melodies, rough slamjack drums, and new age atmospheres. starclash kicks off side a, with its dramatic arpeggios and sid chip crashes, techno to soundtrack the saturday night laser show at the planetarium. following is a night of adventure with its eastern scales and washy broken chorus unit hiss. on side b we have beautiful sheffield - an ode to electronic musics (possibly) most important british city and the title track rounds of the ep - house music for listening to while looking out to sea.

russias art crime seemingly came out of nowhere with his first record and it blew us all away at phonica. lead track release was pure nineties house nostalgia, a huge reverbed piano over skipping drums that became an instant shop classic. we just couldnt get it out of our heads!

acid, no wave and experimental house producer drvg cvltvre has been busy recently. after releasing with chris moss acid on shipwrec in 2014, vincent koreman then served up a full ep of his own, on dutch label cos_mos and is now back once again with a new four track affair on pinkman that comes two years after he offered up the label’s first ep in 2013. up first, * my houz* is a swampy house track with heavy drums, whirring machines and white noise textures all adding up to an intense affair that sounds like little else. then comes * tyranny of the gods* , a slow tempo but high impact track that builds and builds on a nerve lead synth line as frazzled bass props things up from below. dark and weird, occult and rave, its another unique proposition. on the flip, * sleepdealer* is an unbalanced house track with taught, tight bass and is shot through with laser like synths. serene and spaced out, it makes way for closer * crack spirit guide* which is a noisy, intense and brooding fusion of crisp percussion, big walls of synth and chattering drums that really have you on edge. once agin, then, drvg cvltvre has come up with the idiosyncratic goods.

mystery man l.f.t. delivers the second ep for woodwork. his poignant debut wood002 includes three original tracks and a remix by benedikt frey. a1 is a dreamy rhodes journey roughened up by distorted 808 sounds. a2 is a melodic house track with a bubbly bassline juxtaposed against crunchy drums. on the flipside, b1 will take you into a laid-back acid house trip fueled by tons of escorial. benedikt frey then twists the track into a trippy techno journey on b2.

anders enges interest in modular synthesizers comes from a desire to shut down conscious decisions about form and to focus on rhythm and timbre. this does however not land in traditional techno but rather in a riff-oriented style, the riff being both rhythm and melody and also a morphing entity in the music. drums and percussion attempt to follow this entity, while maintaining a link to the dance music pulse. the resulting style makes for a hybrid timewarped experience of travelling a parallell electronic music reality, a brooding technoid that grooves

back at it again, taking the true essence of the “jacking” sound of chicago house and putting it’s own stamp on it is what obsolete music technology has done with their new 12&#8243,, entitled, “volatile.” warbling, wobbling, distorting, sinisterly acidic basslines abound is the best way to describe this release! for dance floors only! you have been warned! “volatile” starts off with some 707 drums intro and then fading in, is this tripped out, bubbling bass sound that sends you off a cliff! just when you think that’s all to the track, dark, melancholic pads comes in for added atmos-fear! rounding out the a-side is “killin,” with it’s 2 acid style basslines, one sounding at a high octave and the other at a lower octave. riffs playing separately sounding great, but when played together, there is something slightly, mentally off. on the b-side, “broken siren” is high energy! 808 tom drums bringing the funky low end while a short, electronic piano lick drenched in warm, fuzzy, flange effect. setting it off is a decayed sine wave, mimicking an actual alarm sound. lastly, “electric current” best describe this distorted acid bassline and its tweaking filter and resonance controls over jacking 808 drums

we are pleased as punch to welcome guillaume & the coutu dumonts for his freerange debut with the revolution in the cycles ep. the plucky canadian via berlin producer will be well known to most of you through his releases on labels such as circus company, oslo and raum musik or maybe you witnessed the master at work crafting one of his amazing live sets. either way, you’ll know how he likes it, mixing up his deep understanding of rhythm from his years spent playing drums with the unquestioned groove of house and hypnotic beauty of techno. the result is a unique, slightly wonky brand of off kilter house which is perfectly summed up here on this three track ep.

the second wrltd vinyl is from the collaboration between wunderblock and michael chernev a.k.a arcuation. the ep starts with the amazing remix from darren roberts a.k.a. deepbass. it presents his unique dark hypnotic sound combined with the effective driven techno groove. samuele costa a.k.a. scam. delivers the second remix, which is also dark and atmospheric with some propulsive jacking dubbed out drums. on the b-side, there are 2 remixes from wunderblock: mikroplexmix, with its mesmerising swirling atmosphere and punching rhythm, and more relaxing, deep and spaced-out remix with co-production of vladimir kochenov a.k.a. acrob, also the member of wunderblock crew.

feel the drum beat of uneasy change in the eager hand drums, bass throbs, and stalking synth stabs turning up the tension like rents in a hip neighborhood. terrence parker goes more optimistic turn on the remix. hand stamped vinyl only rsd.

this four track ep kicks off with cladistic mutation , a sparse underwater soundtrack with only the gentlest suggestion of rhythm, lots of reverb and tiny little details that float by like micro-bacterial debris. m2 is a more beat driven dub track but is still way below the surface: the kicks are smooth and hunched over, the chords are smeared out in all directions and the atmosphere is lo-fi and grainy. on the flip, grain gets even more energetic, with firm techno kick drums setting a stern tempo as all sorts of aqueous details and spacious effec ts peppe r the groove. there s a heavenly nature to the pads and an industrial texture to the percussion that makes this a cerebral but physical affair from start to finish. lastly, neurowaves closes things down in blissfully dubbed out and horizontal fashion, with large sweeping pads, tweaked filters and evocative little details all placing you firmly under water.
